Just 35 minutes Southeast of Asheville lies the infamous Green River Gorge. A rugged ravine, filled with groves of old-growth and stately hardwood forests, that is home to some of the burliest white water around. The gorge has gained infamy for raucous rapids, but now there is a “buzz in the air” which is drawing adrenaline enthusiasts deep into The Gorge. Come to Saluda, NC for your next adventure and take flight on “The Gorge,” a unique tree-based zip line canopy adventure that soars high above the infamous Green River Gorge!
What Makes It Great
The Green River Gorge is empirically known for a mile and a half section of the Green River, which drops 400’ in elevation as it rages through a 6’ wide crevice known as “The Narrows.” Nowadays - with the help of Green River Adventures and their acclaimed zip line course, The Gorge - many visitors’ eyes have been turned from the river towards the skies. The tree-based, zip line canopy adventure takes high flying patrons on 11 zips, covering over a mile of cables. Comprised solely of tree-based platforms, the course offers unique perspectives and dramatic effects for participants of all ages.
The canopy course was creatively constructed by Challenge Innovations. George Howard, a builder for Challenge Innovations, proudly proclaims, “I’ve built zip line courses all over the country and this is by far the fastest zip in its entirety that I’ve ever been on.” The string of 11 “zips” starts at the rim of the gorge and plunges 1,100 vertical feet, over 14,000 acres of the Green River Game Lands. The 3.5 hour canopy tour also includes 3 “huge rappels,” off of the tree-based platforms, and an adrenaline inducing ramble across an airy sky bridge!
After your adventure take advantage of your proximity to Saluda, NC and head over to Green River Bar-B-Que for some of their finely smoked swine!
