Review

The Cullasaja River, located between Franklin and Highlands, NC, is a hot spot for mountain trout. This hatchery-supported river has a lot of rocky areas that are ideal for fly fishing, but you can also fish from the banks on the calmer parts of the river.
There's no one spot that's better than others, but the Gold Mine Road bridge is popular because the river is often stocked here, and there are plenty of pull offs along the road. You can follow the river along US 64 all the way to Lake Seqouyah for waterfalls and additional places to fish. This area is not particularly easy to get to or particularly close to Asheville (1.5 hours away), but it is worth the drive for any angler.
You can use natural or artificial bait, and you're allowed to take up to 7 fish home to prepare for you and yours. Enjoy fishing the Browns, Brooks, and Rainbows of the beautiful Cullasaja River.
