Pisgah National Forest's Sliding Rock is easily one of the most popular swimming spots in North Carolina. This natural rock waterslide is regarded as one of America's Top 10 Swimming Holes, and it's easy to understand why, as it's 60-feet of pure fun.
Located in Brevard's backyard, and about an hour away from Asheville, it doesn't get much better than Sliding Rock. Yes, it can be quite crowded in the summer and can feel a bit like a tourist trap. Yes, you'll have to wait in line during the busier hours. But it's absolutely worth it because where else can you zip down 60 feet and plunge into a cool and refreshing pool of mountain stream water? It's a bucket list experience that you'll never forget.
Also, it's the perfect family getaway that's great for the kids. (Children under 6 are even allowed in for free). And safety shouldn't be a concern because during the summer months, from Memorial Day to Labor Day, there is a lifeguard on duty. Bathrooms, changing rooms, and showers are also available, so if you're looking for a convenient, one-of-a-kind North Carolina adventure, be sure to visit this favorite rock.
