Big Creek (Pisgah)-Trail Running
The Spencer Gap/Big Creek run is a challenging 19-20-mile loop in an infrequently visited area of Pisgah National Forest.
Destination Distance From Downtown
This 19-20 mile loop drops from 3,200 feet to 2,500 feet before climbing up to Mount Pisgah around 5,500 feet. There are also multiple stream crossings in this hidden corner of Pisgah. The climb up Big Creek is particularly grueling.
Time To Complete
Average long distance trail runners will take about five hours to complete this tough loop, although elite runners may run it much faster.
This loop can be run any time of year. Bare trees in winter offer the best views, but beware of the many stream crossings on the Big Creek Trail.
