Destination Distance From Downtown
Review
OVP is a super mellow 3/4 mile loop on Oconee County Parks and Recreation land, about 9 miles from downtown Athens. The trail was built over the winter of 2012. Its purpose is to give kids and rookies a place to learn the ropes of mountain biking in the woods without the pressue of a long ride or technical terrain. Smooth single track, no steep climbs or descents. Ideal place to take a kid out for some dirt fun, practice your fundamentals or rip multiple laps for a solid workout. There is also a paved pedestrian path at the facility for the ankle biters to get their balance dialed in. There is currently a dialogue regarding a possible freeride park - we had a temporary one there this summer, and it was a BIG hit with the local kids. The trail is in the woods north (behind) the many soccer fields visible as you enter. The entrance is well marked on Highway 53 - look for the large wall veterans memorial and flags. Plenty of parking, bathrooms and a concession stand is open often on the weekends.
