Intro

If you're looking for a very scenic, relaxing place to paddle, this is your ticket! Situated south of the dam on the Chattahoochee River, Morgan Falls Overlook Park is in its own inlet. This makes the waters extremely calm. It's a great location for beginning paddleboarders to test out their sea legs.

The water is very shallow, so if you fall out you’ll be able to stand and regain your bearings with little effort.  Due to the calm current, it isvery easy to paddle upstream, so this is also a great spot for soloists, as youwon’t need to park another car downstream. Once in the water, you can paddle around the perimeter of the inlet or get aggressive and paddle out to the river.

Many people also enjoy fly fishing in this area, so feel free to bring your pole. There is no shortage of carp, and you will see them jumping out of the water on this part of the river, making choosing a spot to fish relatively easy.

What Makes It Great

The area is flush with places to explore: there are many alcoves and tributaries that are surrounded by trees and other vegetation during the warmer months. You will find many wooded islands, which is a great place to stop for a snack or to string up your hammock and enjoy the serenity around you.

Dependent upon the time of day, it is also very likely you will see deer and other wildlife grazing along the banks.  Thispark is a great area for bird watching, both on and off the river.  The Morgan Falls Overlook Park is a great location for anyone looking for a peaceful paddle, as this park is not highly trafficked.

This beautiful, clean park is also a great area for some trail running, or a short easy hike.  The hiking trail is about a mile long, with little to no elevation change.

If you come at dusk on a clear evening, you'll see a painted picture of the sunset, reminiscent of coastal regions.

Who is Going to Love It

This is a great opportunity for young families to get some exercise together and enjoy nature. Unlike many parks along the Chattahoochee that experience greater river traffic, swimming is allowed in this area.

There is a very new, well-maintained playground at this location as well, which is very popular among the young children.  There are several playing areas, which are separated by age groups, complete with shaded seating for parents.  You will also find benches and hanging swings along the banks of the river, providing beautiful views of the river below.

Overlooking the river is a lovely stone area with a chimney fire pit; a great place to warm up during those cooler months.  Not far away is a pavilion with picnic tables that can easily accommodate large groups of people, so it’s great for a family get together.

Directions, Parking, & Regulations

There is a large parking lot here, and parking is free.  On the left site of the lot, you will find a set of well-kept restroom facilities.  To reach the pier, follow the concrete path pas the playground.  Be prepared to carry your board, kayak or canoe about 100 yards from the parking lot. Although the walk isn’t particularly short, it is scenic, as the area is very well landscaped.  Note that there is no music or amplified sound allowed in this park, which contributes to the peacefulness of the area.
