Intro

Putting in at the Walsh Landing Boat Ramp offers paddlers an experience unlike most other routes in the Austin area. This is not only because Lake Austin will have more motorized ski/fishing/cruising boats than other spots, but also because the lakeside cliffs are much steeper and there are many secluded coves to explore.

What Makes It Great

The recommended route is to put in at Walsh Landing and paddle just over 1 mile to an inlet on the right. In this quiet cove (“Laguna Gloria”) is the Austin Museum of Art as well as Mayfield Park, which are both worth exploring.

Who is Going to Love It

It is recommended to do this paddle early in the morning to avoid boat traffic. Be very careful of boats on busy days, and be prepared for plenty of turbulent wake as the lake is not very wide. Park for free in the dirt lot across from the boat ramp and enjoy an espresso at the neighboring Mozart’s Coffee or a meal at the Hula Hut afterwards.
