Dolce Neve

Perfect Italian gelato stop during a hot day or late at night.

Dolce Neve is somewhat new on the Austin scene, but is quickly becoming the place to get gelato (and ice cream, frozen yogurt, frozen treats, etc.). The location on South 1st is sandwiched between some of Austin's most popular restaurants, and gelato is such an easy stop it is especially easy to convince yourself of a 5 minute stop. Don't, however, stop for only 5 minutes.  This is a true Italian feeling gelaterie, that feels inviting enough to stay for a few hours. The owners are friendly and very proud of their Italian heritage and any time people are eating gelato they are in friendly moods. For anyone that has traveled to Italy, a trip to this shop will bring back fond memories from that country.
Dolce Neve focuses on all types of gelato.  You can get sweet creamy flavors all the way to "tarty" flavors.  I always love getting all of the extremes in a large and having several different flavors to snack on. Like all gelateries, you can sample to your heart's content. Dolce Neve has 18 flavors from the traditional to the zany. Different from a lot of Italian gelaterie, Dolce Neve focuses on the quality of their flavors instead of having the mass quantities you will find in other places(frequently you can find 50+ flavors in stores). On top of this amazing gelato, you can also find perfect shots of espresso and frozen novelties. If a member of your group has a hang up on gelato (but who really would)  there are options for them as well.
What sticks out to me at Dolce Neve is the versatility of the store. On top of valuing the taste and flavor, I heavily judge places on their feel and timing I can go. Dolce Neve has yet to disappoint me on a single visit. Whether I've gone after lunch time for a quick snack or an evening night cap, it's always felt like the best food I could have gotten at the time. My palette might change from wanting fruity flavors to traditional flavors, but there is never a bad time for gelato. This is a great stop for people just finishing bike rides around the city, taking a break from exploring all Austin has to offer, or needing a low key place to plan the next days adventures.
