Intro

The Hill of Life trail in the Barton Creek Greenbelt attracts all types of outdoor enthusiasts- and for good reason! It’s got just about everything you could ask for. The trail itself is a steep, mostly straight limestone trail banked by junipers and oaks.

What Makes It Great

The long and steep rocky trail averages 30% to 60% grade making for a fast and exciting hike down, and an excellent workout for hiking up. The terrain is loose and rocky, and there are several drop offs created by concrete maintaining pillars, which create obstacles along the trail, so be especially careful on the way down.

Who is Going to Love It

For casual hikers and families, Hill of Life offers a variety of trail connections that lead to beautiful swimming holes and waterfalls, including multiple cascades. Most of the hillside trails are rocky, while the creek-side trails are typically flat, packed dirt, which draws barefoot enthusiasts too.
