Austin and the Texas Hill Country offer excellent variety for mountain bikers, including plenty of inclines, rock gardens, challenging singletrack, and miles and miles of remote wooded trails on both public and private lands to keep even the hardiest rider satisfied. In central Austin, spots like the Barton Creek Greenbelt provide numerous limestone-base trail-riding challenges.
On the north end of town, Walnut Creek Park holds well over 10 miles of singletrack, a BMX pump track, and a range of riding opportunities, from smooth paths to extremely difficult vertical drops and man-made obstacles.
Farther northwest in the Hill Country are places like Reveille Peak Ranch, a wonderland of granite boulders, rises, and challenging paths. A 20-mile ride is common here, but you can make your own short ride too. On the opposite end of the area, just 45 minutes southeast of town, is Rocky Hill Ranch, another private park that hosts races but also provides a great playground of many pine-shaded trails.
