Boulevard park is subtly one of the most accessible launch sites for coastal/ flat water paddlers in the Bellingham area. There is a small beach on the north side of Boulevard Park, across from the giant staircase up to State Street and the railroad crossing of the South Bay Trail. The water is calm and gentle, making it a great spot for a smooth launch. Paddle down south to Fairhaven, and rest on the Boardwalk's small dock before heading back. This launch site is about 1.5 miles south of the Cornwall Launch site, so combined, they make a great shuttle opportunity.
What Makes It Great
A newly renovated small beach, field and playground, picnic benches, barbecues, and The Woods coffee shop make the park one of the best places to be when the sun is out in Bellingham. The park is the separation between the gravel, north side of the South Bay Trail and the boardwalk south side of the trail. The field is big enough to kick a soccer ball, play frisbee, and set up a slack line between the trees. The Woods coffee shop has wifi and indoor and outdoor seating. The sunset views are pristine. Looking to cool off in the summer? Walk down the boardwalk portion, and you'll surely see people jumping off the bay side of the boardwalk, next to the dock.
What makes this park so perfect is the parking. If you can get a spot at the park, parking is free and could not be closer to the launch site. You can park on Bayview Drive if the parking lot is full - still close to the launch site.
Who is Going to Love It
This place is easy, making it great for beginners. It's easy to launch and the calm water makes it a relaxing environment for paddling.
