Perhaps the most relaxed café in town, housed in a former filling station in an off-the-beaten-path neighborhood, this needs to be a stop if you’re spending any time at Red Mountain Park, which is just down the road. It’s equally worth a standalone trip if you’re looking for a chill place where you can sit for hours on one of the comfy couches, outside on the patio, or propped up against the pillows at the coffee table tucked in a nook that doubles as a stage for their weekly musical events. What Makes it Great
Seeds Coffee Co. had very humble beginnings. It started out with a group of friends using a table top Whirly Pop popcorn roaster to roast their own coffee. This was a hobby that developed into a business where the passion for great coffee carried over into the quality of current product. They use a variety of brew styles such as the pour-over method, Chemex and Aeropress.
If your cup of tea is, well, tea, then this is the café for you. Seeds Coffee Co. brews a wide variety of loose-leaf tea drinks, but a local favorite is the Gregg Almond, a black tea with a nutty flavor. Depending on the outside temp, any of their specialty drinks can be made hot, iced, or either way as a latte. Like to try new things? The barista invites suggestions and will whip it up for you. Who knows, the drink named after you might just get added to the menu along with the CS Lewis, Patricia Reichardt and Nelson Mandela.
The café sources most of their ingredients locally including their eats from the Alabama Biscuit Company, which provides a fresh, daily supply of organic and gluten-free granolas, cookies, and other assorted pastries. The soothing vibe here is capped off with relaxing tunes, a TV straight from a 1970's living room, and our favorite: a throwback Nintendo from the ‘80s with a full assortment of games including Tecmo Bowl, Mario Bros, and Tetrus. It’s not uncommon for someone to pick up an acoustic guitar and start an informal jam session.
Who is Going to Love ItPretty much anyone with a palette for great coffee and delicious tea would make the most common patrons of Seeds Coffee Co. Music lovers will enjoy the live music events, students will love the comfortable and unique seating that makes you feel as if you’re crashing in your best friend’s living room, writers will appreciate the inspiring atmosphere, and everyone else will love it for the personality.
