Just a short drive from downtown, Shafer Butte Campground offers one of the most convenient and pleasant camping escapes when the valley heats up in the summer. Consistently 10-15 degrees cooler than Boise, when valley temps soar above 90, the refreshing difference can be a sanity-saver.
What Makes It Great
The sites are technically walk-in but close enough to the parking strip that there isn’t much distance to go. Enjoy the pine scented air, make time to walk the Mores Mountain Nature Trail or connect to the Shafer Butte Trail system for a day of mountain biking or hiking. To have this 7,000-foot alpine area so close to the city is one of the many reasons that make Boise so special. Pick a night to watch a full moon rise over the horizon, or come during a new moon to count the infinite stars in the sky. Or, since its so close to town, why not pick one of each and keep coming back for more?
Who is Going to Love It
Seven campsites and two picnic areas make this campground accessible for a campout even on a weeknight. It’s close enough to town for you to back for work in time the next morning.
