Review

Intro

A great day trip, the Vinegar Creek Run on the Main of the Salmon takes boaters through the second deepest canyon in the US. This broad section of The River of No Return features straightforward, open rapids and stretches of flat water. Several nice sandy beaches provide great spots for a lunch break.

What Makes It Great

From source to confluence with the Snake River, the Salmon runs 425 miles, undammed and is the longest free flowing river in the Lower 48. Running through steep hillsides and canyon walls, the landscape is green with lush vegetation.

Who is Going to Love It

A couple of big rapids, French Creek and Ruby, are bigger rides especially when the river is running high.

Directions, Parking, & Regulations

Alongside the river, a gravel road provides easy access and camping spots for the night before your run. Get updated flow info on AmericanWhitewater. The trip can be extended to include the section past Riggins for an additional day on the water.
