It doesn't get more local than this.
Located right off of Route 2 in Irving, MA, the Crooked Tap is your classic New England bar. The owner is the bartender, his wife is the cook, and together they provide a great dining experience for a very reasonable price.  All of the dishes are prepared in the back room and the beer is always fresh, making for a great place to take a load off after a solid day of rock climbing, hiking, or paddling at the area's many local crags, trails, and rivers. Be sure to check the list of specials because there are usually home-made items to order.
What Makes it Great
As with any good bar in Massachusetts, if there are any hometown sports being played, rest assured the game will be on TV and a few locals will be around the cheer on the Sox, Bruins, Celtics, or Patriots to victory. The Crooked Tap generally doesn't get too busy, but even if it does, there are plenty of tables and bar space to go around. Be sure to try the chicken stew- you won't regret it.
Although the bar is rarely empty, the Crooked Tap doesn't get wild or rowdy like some of Boston’s more popular sports bars. Instead, you will likely find a quieter crowd enjoying their meals and drinks. Additionally, if you find yourself here on a weekend evening, there’s a good chance that you will be in the company of rock climbers who spent the day at the nearby Farley Ledges.
Who is Going to Love It<
Folks looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the busier cities around Boston will enjoy the quiet atmosphere of the Crooked Tap and surrounding communities. Irving is a small town located amid a ton of nature. Even the drive out to is beautiful- forests, waterways, ponds, bogs, and hills dot the landscape.
Looking for something to do either before or after a meal here? Check out the Deerfield River that runs through the town, which has fantastic white water sections for beginner, intermediate, and expert paddlers. There are also some beautiful hiking trails that wind throughout the forests of Irving. Whatever your fancy, there is bound to be some outdoor activity that will get you excited about visiting the western part of Massachusetts.
Directions, Parking & Fees
From Boston, take Route 2 west for about an hour and forty-five minutes. Upon entering the town of Irving, the Crooked Tap will be just down the road on your right hand side. Its a small building, so don't miss it!
There is a parking lot that holds a fair number of cars, so there shouldn't be an issue finding a spot.
Food and beer prices at the Crooked Tap are cheaper than that of similar establishments closer to Boston, so your dollar should get you a little more bang for your buck out this way.
