Intro

Devil’s Thumb Ranch in Tabernash is a privately owned ranch that offers an extensive network of trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. There’s a lot of terrain to cover -- over 77 miles of winter trails, the majority of them expertly groomed. All levels of cross country skiers are welcome as are snowshoers, ski-jourers and fat biking. The landscape is beautiful, quiet and dreamy on a snowy winters’ day, especially when the long shadows of the Gore Range peaks to the west linger during an alpine sunset.

What Makes It Great

Fantastic skiing on perfect groomers? The amazing winter wilderness and gorgeous afternoon sunlight? The luxurious spa and lodging? Any of them will do. Perhaps however, if will be the incredible ski-jouring adventure that you can share with your pups!

The sheer volume of groomed trails, easy to follow map/signs and terrain for all levels of skiers make this the ultimate winter Colorado day trip. The beauty of the Tabernash area cannot be overstated -- this flat valley is completely encased by towering mountains. Plenty of lakes and rivers flow through Devil’s Thumb Ranch, creating icy veins with patches of running water, even in the coldest weather. The access to fine dining, spa treatments and posh lodging is pretty nice, though you don’t need to have a fat wallet to enjoy the ski trails -- the entrance fee is modest and there are often packages available to save money. There’s over 6,000 acres to explore so perhaps a soak in the hot tub isn’t such a bad idea.

Cross country skiers who are looking for a dedicated facility with trails designed specifically for nordic adventures will adore Devil’s Thumb Ranch. Casual skiers and first timers will love the green, groomed trails and those looking for a hearty workout will enjoy the challenge of covering as much ground as possible!
