Sure, fat bikes are fun in the winter. And in Boulder, where snow and mud mix throughout the colder months, a fat bike is perfect to hit up trails without worrying about getting stuck in snowdrifts. And there are plenty of winter trails within an hour of town, including Walker Ranch, Magnolia Road, Brainard Lake, and Peaceful Valley. But fat bikes are too fun to just take out for a spin in the snow -- Boulder's bikers are happy to ride them year round. And why not? Those fat tires are keen at slurping up bumps at Heil Ranch and Picture Pock trails. Heck, they are even fun commuter bikes! The point is that you're going to have a blast on a fat bike, no matter the season -- though winter will likely mean you have the trails to yourself. One of our favorites is Moffat Road in the winter -- can you peddle all the way to Yankee Doodle Lake in the snow?
