Boulder's local trails are snowshoe worthy when there's enough snow. Flatirons Vista, Doudy Draw, Eagle Trail, and others are great adventures on a winter's day. Walker Ranch is another one people miss but is worth a romp when the snow is good. More consistent trails can be found at Brainard Lake, Mammoth Gulch, Moffat Road, Rainbow Lakes, Niwot Ridge and Camp Dick. All of these trails are about an hour out of town. Brainard Lake is especially good for snowshoers; you can romp with your dog on the main roads (closed to traffic and unplowed in the winter) or head into the woods on several designated snowshoe paths. For a longer day, connect with the Sourdough Trail for more miles of snowshoeing fun. Lost Lake out of the Hessie Trailhead and Heart Lake out of Moffat Tunnel are both great springtime destinations for snowshoers looking for a full day out in the Rocky Mountains.
