Daniel ridge is a serene and beautiful 4 mile loop. It's rather perfect for its simplicity. On my day off, I teach a day hiking class, and I often take students to Daniel Ridge. It is a moderate hike, but there are some sections, which are pretty steep and hilly. It's also a very popular technical mountain biking loop, so share the trail.
The hike meanders through a 50 year-old hard wood forest. Hikers will enjoy nice rhododendron tunnels and mountain laurel. The last mile, you're actually following the headwaters of a creek that eventually turn into a beautiful 100 foot waterfall. The view of the waterfall from the bottom is impressive. It's a great trail just about any time of year, and in the winter, it has distant views of Cedar Rock and Looking Glass. In the spring, enjoy the wonderful wildflower patches.
