Review
Intro
The Bracken Mountain trail system is on city property, and a local trail builder has put together an impressive loop in town. The property backs up to USFS land, and from there you can ride all day. For now, we'll stay within city limits and ride it as an out and back. These trails are machine cut and really fast, but not technical. They are freshly built within the last few years.
What Makes It Great
After parking at the Brevard Music Center, ride up the gravel road near the main entrance. At the top is the Bracken Mountain parking lot, but space is limited. The trailhead is right there, and right off the bat there's a nice steep climb. The trail switchbacks up hill for awhile, before cresting the ridge and heading downhill. Soon after, you will find yourself at the intersection with Brushy Creek trail, which you will come back on. Continue left, and make a left on Mackey Ridge; then climb all the way to the top of Bracken Mountain, where you will find a camp ring and the forest service boundary.
Turn around for a ripping fast downhill, and this time make a hard left after you ride Mackey Ridge trail, and head uphill to the top of Brushy Creek. This 15 minute flow trail will leave you white knuckled! It is really fast and wide open. This will take you right back to the parking lot where you started.
Who is Going to Love It
Not technical in nature, they can be ridden by beginners and seasoned riders alike. There is some steep terrain, but nothing to deter you from giving it a go.
