Opened in August 2014, this is Burlington’s newest and largest addition to its indoor climbing scene. Unlike many climbing gyms, MetroRock’s 15,000 square foot space was built from the ground-up, rather than from refurbishing an old warehouse. Because of this owners were able to design it specifically as a climbing and fitness area, offering better ventilation and wall space for climbing. Metro has 80 top rope and lead stations with climbs up to 50 feet high, as well as autobelays and 5,000 square feet of bouldering. MetroRock has three gyms across New England, including this one in Burlington and two others in Massachusetts. They host both the Dark Horse and Iron Maiden bouldering comps.

What Makes It Great

The size of this gym is impressive. Their 50-foot walls provide a wonderful canvas for route setting with overhanging walls, straight-up face climbs and roofs. Their top-out bouldering area is also quite large so even when it is crowded there are plenty of open climbs. Adding new routes weekly ensures something different all the time even if you are a regular.

They cater to all ability levels from beginner to the seasoned climber with an entire beginner section and instructional classes great for first time climbers and kids. They have all different types of programs from birthday parties to team building and overnights. To top it off they have a full workout area complete with yoga classes, and an indoor ropes course.

Who is Going to Love It

Anyone interested in climbing from a first-timer to a rock veteran. This gym offers challenging climbs for all abilities and the staff to help bring your game to the next level. With options ranging from toprope and lead climbing to bouldering and yoga, there is bound to be something for everyone.
