It's always nice when you can get away from your typical coffee shop chain, and Kudu makes it all the more easy for you to do so. If you've ever tried to walk up to the counter with your dog and order a locally brewed craft beer at Dunkin’ Donuts, you've probably gotten a few stares, but that type of behavior is welcomed at Kudu.
They are conveniently located downtown on Vanderhorst Street, and cater to anyone who walks in with an urge for great coffee and/or beer. The ambiance inside is that of your living room (that is if you have stuffed kudus and trendy furniture all over the place), and the patio is even better, especially on a nice day. Think palm trees, ivy covered brick walls, and a trickling fountain, as well as plenty of umbrellaed tables and chairs.
Kudu takes your favorite day drinking spot and combines it with friendly service and world class coffee. And as mentioned, if you want to bring your hound with you, it's more than acceptable.
One thing to keep in mind though is that Kudu does not have Wi-fi, so if you're looking for a place to do computer work, then this doesn't really fit the bill. On the other hand, if you're looking for one of Charleston's most relaxed environs where you can relax with coffee or beer, a good book or good friends, it doesn't get much better than Kudu.
