Folly Beach is known for its low key, non commercial coastline as well as for being one of the most popular spots on the Carolina coast for surfers, kayak surfers, and coastal paddlers alike. The Folly beach community is very welcoming to those in search of waves or places to paddle around their town, and they will happily point you in the direction of the best waves.
Upon reaching the island, there are plenty of spots to park on the side of East Ashley road, which runs the entire length of Folly Beach, and beach access points are located about every quarter mile on East Ashley. This is a great beach for beginners and lifetime paddlers alike. If you are looking to surf on the coast (normally a handful of dolphins will accompany you), or paddle around the island to the marsh, I would highly recommend Folly beach.
The Washout is probably the most popular spot along Folly for surfing, offering consistent swell, with occasional ten foot wave.
