Jake's Good Eats

Made possible by

Jake's is one of those cool little local finds that's not really near anything else. They produce great southern food in a unique atmosphere (old service station).

Featured by celebrity chef Bobby Flay, Jakes Good Eats is no pretension, fill your belly, southern food in a comfortable, down-home atmosphere that you will be thinking about your entire ride on the trails at Sherman Branch. There are few limits on a menu that offers hot dogs to N.Y. Strip and glazed pork chops. Occupying an old service station, Jake's decor is as laid back as the menu.

What Makes It Great

The grassy horse pasture that borders Jakes Good Eats is the perfect backdrop for the old gas station that houses the southern casual restaurant. The ultra-laid back theme – grab a beer out of the old soda cooler while you wait for your table – carries over to the interior décor. Country antiques line the shelves and hang next to iconic photos.

The menu at Jakes isn’t extensive but does pay homage to many great southern-country staples. Favorite appetizers include fried green tomatoes, cornmeal fried oysters, and the venison quesadilla – served with an unexpectedly delicious and medium-hot jalapeno jelly.

Burgers and pulled pork barbecue plates are reasonably priced and, as is everything here, easy to tell that they started with good ingredients.

Unlike the lunch menu, expect to open the wallet a little wider for the entrees. But Jake’s makes up for the cost with plentiful portions and excellent flavors. The Maple Glazed Bone-In Pork Chop should be your first stop if you’re a meat eater. If there’s room, and there’s always room, house made desserts like fruit cobbler await.

Speaking of room, there’s not much in the dining room at Jakes. Get there early or expect to wait, sometimes for well over an hour. But no worries, grab a brew and kick back on the porch while horses chew the grass next door. What’s your hurry?

Who is Going to Love It

Jake’s offers a lot for the meat eater and some veggie options as well so most will find something to dig into. The beer selection is modest, but they do offer some quality choices. If you’re trying to stretch a dollar, dinner at Jakes may not be the first place to hit but if your budget and your appetite are big, or you can make it for lunch, it’s a fantastic choice. Just a couple minutes away, this is the spot to stop after tearing up the trails at Sherman Branch.

Directions, Parking, & Regulations

Being away from everything has its advantages. Parking is typically easy at Jake's. However, you can expect to wait just about every weekend evening.
