Only a short drive from downtown Chattanooga, you'll find one of the best boulder fields in the entire country. Stone Fort (aka Little Rock City) has placed Chattanooga in the national bouldering limelight because of its killer sandstone and primo lines.
What Makes It Great
Best in the late fall, winter and early spring when the temperatures are cold and friction is high, Stone Fort is one of the easiest climbing areas to access from the city. With an added bonus of a short hike to reach the boulders, it's a place you won't want to miss.
Located in Soddy Daisy, next to the Montlake Golf Course, Stone Fort is one of three locations in the Triple Crown Bouldering Series that takes place each fall. A guidebook, Stone Fort Bouldering by Andy Wellman, lists topos and descriptions for all Stone Fort boulder problems. Crowds can get big during peak bouldering seasons, as well as mid-March (Spring Break for many colleges), so please be mindful of use and abuse of the land.
Please do not bring your dog as they are strictly forbidden here and since Stone Fort sits on private land it is important that we respect the rules. Pack out all your mess, including tape bits and keep noise down, but be ready to squeal at some of the most prized lines in the southeast.
