This is a great in-town loop for a solid workout before work, during lunch, between meetings, or for an evening ride.
What Makes It Great
This route takes advantage of lightly trafficked roads in scenic neighborhoods, with plenty of climbing (for an in-town ride, that is). At times the winding neighborhood roads can be a bit confusing, but three major roads surround the area, making it easy to get back to the starting point if you get off course.
Like so many other great cycling routes in Chattanooga, this 21-mile road bike loop starts and ends in the 2 North Shore parking lot, winding through the Riverview, North Chattanooga, Dallas Heights, and Stuart Heights neighborhoods. You'll begin by wheeling through Coolidge Park, past impressive views at Rivermont Golf and Country Club, and then climb up the rolling hills that separate the North Shore from Red Bank. The ride finishes with a fast out-and-back down Moccasin Bend, where you're likely to see plenty of wildlife and other cyclists.
Who is Going to Love It
Fast riders wanting to burn some glycogen will get the workout they crave. Newer riders take it easier, with several opportunities to cut the ride short if desired.
