Originally founded in 1890, Chattanooga Brewing Company once distributed a whopping 50,000 barrels of beer a year in their turn-of-the-century heyday. Prohibition shut them down in 1915, leading to an unfortunate hundred-year hiatus, but in 2010 two passionate & crafty engineers gave Chatt Brew a new life-line.
After about four years of operating in a tiny little space on Frazier Avenue, Chattanooga Brewing recently moved into a beautiful two-story building on Chestnut Street, right across the street from Finley Stadium. The downstairs features long, communal tables and large open windows, allowing customers to peer inside at the impressive stainless steel brew kettles, as well as outside at the evening sunset. The upstairs features a bar, more wooden tables, and even a couple of couches. So, as far as environment is concerned, you really can't beat it.
As nice as the atmosphere is, however, what they really pride themselves on is the beer. Currently, they have two beers that remain on tap throughout the year: the Imperial Pilsner and the Hill City IPA. On top of that, they have two seasonal beers, which are constantly rotating and constantly pleasing different taste buds. The Chickbock is one particular local favorite.
As if things couldn't get any better, Chatt Brew has also mastered their pub fare better than most other places in the city. Their burgers are top-notch, their nachos are generously portioned and drenched in a deliciously creamy cheese, their stuffed pockets are inventive and the epitome of comfort-food, and their fries are waffle fries! And you can make them sweet potato waffle fries!
It's truly a one-of-a-kind place and a great addition to the Chattanooga community, and their motto of "Beer for Adventure" is really what it's all about.
