Clyde's On Main is one of the best, most unique restaurants in Chattanooga, featuring delicious, inventive food and a vibrant atmosphere replete with indoor porch seating, jukeboxes, and even ping pong tables.
Opened in late August 2014, Clyde's On Main quickly became a local Chattanooga favorite for many obvious reasons. First and foremost, the atmosphere is truly one of a kind. Nowhere else in the city will you find such a unique blend of 1980's-blue-collar-tavern combined with classy modernity. The building itself was once an auto-glass warehouse (named Clyde's Auto-Glass) before it was refurbished into the large, 4,000 square foot space that it is today.
At the front end of the establishment, you'll find two ping pong tables, where it's generally pretty easy to get a game, and on the opposite end, you'll find an indoor patio with large, open windows. In between, is a long bar perfect for watching sporting events, plenty of leather couches perfect for enjoying a happy hour drink, and also lots of big, comfortable booths lining one of the walls. On these walls hang old movie posters, street signs, and even elk and deer heads. Just to throw in a few other amenities, there are also jukeboxes, shuffleboard tables, and a young, friendly, attractive waitstaff.
As for the food... well, the Monen Family has delivered yet again! Owners of other Chattanooga favorites, like Taco Mamacita, Community Pie, and Urban Stack, Clyde's features a menu that is both diverse and eclectic while also being casual and simple. The large list of sandwiches range from their Choo Choo Hot Fish, to a Caribbean Jerk Chicken, to a "Bahn mi," to their Badass Loaded BLT, and even a classic Clyde's Burger.
On top of this, there are also huge, delicious salads like the Blue Cheese Chop, which features grilled chicken, onion rings, blue cheese, walnuts, and other deliciousness laid out over a bed of greens. And for the grand finale, the Texas Style Smoked Brisket and Slow Smoked Pork plates are simply out of this world! Make sure to top off anything that comes out of the smoker with one, or all six, of their homemade barbecue sauces. Having been smoked all day long, these meats come out tender and flavorful, and you can pair them with your choice of two sides. Whether its the succulent greens, the people's veggies, or the best sweet potato fries in town, that's your call.
This place is great to visit anytime of day and it's always buzzing with a wide variety of people, from sharply dressed business men and women to Chaco-clad university students. Happy hour is from 4:00-7:00, featuring 50 cents off draft beers and $3 well drinks, as well as jukebox tunes. On weekend nights, it becomes a fun nightlife spot, staying open until the early hours of the morning.
