If a restaurant sticks around for 75 years, they must be doing something right.
In the case of The Plush Horse, that something is pretty obvious—homemade ice cream that’s considered among the best in Chicagoland.
There’s a wide variety of treats to be had at this Palos Park staple, as well as coffee, bagels, muffins and other baked goods. For athletes, it’s just a short drive from the Palos Trail System. The McClaughry Spring Woods is just a few blocks north. For mountain bikers and trail runners who make Palos their weekend destination, the Plush Horse offers great coffee and espresso before your ride, and a sweet treat afterward.
The restaurant is first and foremost and ice-cream shop that’s a throwback to a different age. It offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and features cones, shakes, sodas, malts and sundaes from more than 40 flavors of their homemade ice cream.
As you’d expect, the restaurant gets quit busy in the warm weather months, but the lines move fast. If you’ve never been to The Plush Horse, it’s worth a trip next time you make the trip to Palos.
