A backcountry delight just about a half-hour drive from Cleveland, this creekside site is surrounded by the more than 900 acres of Girdled Road Reservation in Lake Metroparks. Situated just off a hilly section of the Buckeye Trail, it makes an ideal site for folks training for long distance backpacking trips - as well as those just longing to put some space between themselves and the daily grind, literally and figuratively.
Tent Camping Close to Cleveland
Camping in Lake Metroparks offers urban dwellers a chance to get away and save time, because these getaways are so close to the city.
The Baker Road site is one of six tent camping sites in the Lake Metroparks system. Like the rest, it is a primitive campground and no restrooms are available. Campers are expected to pack-in, pack-out, and follow other best practices. The park includes its rules on its website. Campsites are available from May 1 through October 31, and reservations are "brisk," according to Campsite Manager Nancy Martin. Reservations can be made online anytime, or by calling the camp office at 440.358.7275.
