Six miles of multi-use trails wind around Geneva State Park, mostly through woods and around a couple of ponds and estuary inlets. The paved bike path (2 miles) skirts the rocky shore of Lake Erie, where visitors can "oooo" and "ahhhh" at the lake's always-stunning sunsets. During the winter months, the trails still get plenty of use when cross-country skiers and snowmobiles come out to play.
What Makes It Great
The 600+ Geneva State Park property on the edge of Lake Erie glistens year round - because no matter what the season, when the sun is shining it's either bouncing off the light beach sand or the snow and ice. Hey, this is Northeast Ohio - dress for the cold and take your cross country skis to enjoy the trail in the winter months.
During the warmer months, the campground, swim beach, and marina are popular, all making good use of our Great Lake. The marina rents watercrafts that can handle Lake Erie conditions, a volleyball court is located near the campground, an archery range is situated in the middle of the park, and when you've had enough outdoor activities, the lodge serves a nice dinner and - bonus! - runs a wine tour shuttle bus to a few of the area's many wineries.
Who is Going to Love It
None of the trails here are particularly hilly or rugged, so this is a good place to begin if you're returning to activity after an injury or cultivating a hiking habit in a friend who's more 'desk jockey' than 'jock'. Plus, the serene woodland scenes and lakeshore views are hard to beat here. Oh... and then there's the proliferation of wineries around these parts.
