  10. Young's Mountain - Hiking

    Young's Mountain is a nice, relatively easy walk-up peak climb close to town. There's a ring of rocks at the summit that some believe is a Native American medicine wheel.

    The hike into the Temple Peaks area is pretty short — 9 miles gets you into the heart of the valley — and it's well worth it. You'll be surrounded by craggy peaks, alpine lakes and drop-dead gorgeous scenery.

    After a long, steady climb out of Dickinson Park, you'll be above treeline for most of this hike, with incredible views of the surrounding peaks.

    Johnny Behind the Rocks is Lander's mini-redrock desert country. There's not much slickrock, but the scenery with its sandstone cliffs and redrock outcroppings is reminiscent of southern Utah. Lots of work has been done on the trails here, resulting in great riding in a beautiful setting.

  17. Fairfield Hill - Trail Running

    Fairfield Hill begins with a big climb. It's a grunt but good training and once you get up out of Sinks Canyon the terrain levels out.

  18. Beaver Creek Nordic Ski Area

    Beaver Creek's nordic trail system was built and maintained by the Lander Nordic Ski Club. It's a beautiful, challenging course for both skate and Nordic cross-country skiing and has the only biathlon course in the state.
