The Wynkoop Brewing Company is truly legendary. Housed in an old Mercantile warehouse constructed in the late 19th century, and featuring an interior with exposed brick, hardwood floors, and sturdy wooden pillars, this historic structure would one day (a century after its initial construction) become Colorado's very first brewpub.
In 1988, a group of entrepreneurs, including current Colorado governor, John Hickenlooper, recognized the promise that a quality brewhouse could bring to the Lower Downtown Denver community. By serving some of the tastiest blends of small-craft brews, as well as delicious, highly thought-out eats (like the Flat-Iron Steak with grilled asparagus and maple bacon sweet potato), Wynkoop Brewpub brought- and continues to bring- something very special to the Denver dining scene.
Not only do they serve award-winning, nationally recognized in-house brews, but they also provide a classy environment in which to enjoy them. Added to the aforementioned interior is a pool hall in the upstairs that is the best in Denver. With upwards of 20 tables and FREE pool every afternoon (11:00 am- 6:00 pm), as well as the same delicious drinks you'll find downstairs, it's no wonder that Wynkoop is such a thriving environment, bringing in locals and tourists from all walks of life.
On top of being a brewery, Wynkoop also serves spirited cocktails, and perhaps most interesting of these are their Beer Cocktails, with recipes that include a milk stout with ginger liqueur, vanilla vodka, and soda water as well as a lager with hard-cider and blackberry liqueur. Definitely worth a try.
So if you're looking for a unique dining destination with world-class eats and drinks and a fascinating history and billiards recreation following your outdoor recreation, Wynkoop Brewing Company is certainly your best bet.
