For those looking to get out of Denver and do some sightseeing, heading up to historic old town Evergreen (Denver’s original mountain suburb) is a perfect option.
What Makes It Great
The Evergreen Lake Trail is nestled at the top of town at Evergreen Lake, a scenic 420-acre Denver Mountain Park. I recommend driving through Morrison and up Bear Creek Canyon the old way through Old Town Evergreen and checking out some of the shops, art galleries and restaurants while you’re there.
The Lake House is a beautiful historic structure very popular for weddings during the summer. In the winter, it becomes a warming hut and rental spot for ice skaters, for whom the ice is maintained. The Evergreen Audubon Society also runs a nature center on-site.
Who is Going to Love It
This is the perfect place to take family visiting from out of town or to go on a first date.
Directions, Parking, & Regulations
You’ll find plenty of parking in town (except maybe on weekends) or park at the lake house and hop on the trail here. It’s a varying 1.3 mile trail that is mostly packed dirt and boardwalk, perfect for walking or jogging, with a few stairs. It’s absolutely gorgeous and you pass by homes and a golf course as well as the lakeshore and historic downtown. You can add onto this jaunt several miles by continuing on the DeDisse trail and into the Alderfer-Three Sisters Park.
