For a good challenge in a beautiful spot just west of Denver, Castle Trail at Mount Falcon Park in Morrison is difficult to beat.
What Makes It Great
Within the Mount Falcon park, there are nine trails, and they’ll all scratch your adventure itch. Castle Trail is a steep 3.8 mile trail that spans from the east to west parking lots. Return along the same route for a 7.6 mile ride, or add on any of the other trails that are all accessible from the Castle Trail route.
Try taking the Parmalee Trail to the Old Ute Trail to the Devil’s Elbow loop for a challenging 14-mile ride. For any of these rides, you’ll enjoy the benefits of a full suspension mountain bike, but you’ll also find people riding hard tails, rigids, single-speeds and fat bikes.
Take in some of the turn-of-the-20th-century history around this area and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife at dusk and dawn.
Who is Going to Love It
There are quite a few trails to choose from, so the variety makes it a great place for any level rider.
Directions, Parking, & Regulations
Begin at the east parking lot, so that you ride uphill first and get to enjoy the downhill when you’ve, ideally, worn yourself out.
Watch for signs to avoid the Turkey Trot trail, which is a hiker-only path at the east end of the park.
