Review

A medium-sized lake located up a few dirt roads, Lake Ashurst is popular for fishing, paddling and camping. There is a boat dock, though smaller boats can launch from the narrow beaches around the lake. The lake is stocked with trout and catfish, and two nearby campgrounds supply water and toilets in the spring and summer. The rest of the year, camping, fishing and boating are all allowed, but the utilities are closed.

In the day, the scenery is lovely, but the real magic is at night. The perfectly smooth lake is surrounded by short hills, trapping mist on the surface for an eerie, beautiful scene that is just perfect for night kayaking.
