With over 1,500 linear feet of cliff line and 30-40 routes, Yellow Bluff is one of Alabama's most popular crags. Since it is owned by the Southeastern Climbers' Coalition, access is easy, the routes are bolted and well maintained, and it's free to climb. At 5-10 minutes, the hike in is an easy ¼ mile approach up to the cliff line. Yellow Bluff offers routes for every skill level, but many of the the starts can be challenging, as the rock is Sandstone and can sometimes break away. After the starts though, there are bomber holds, and I would describe Yellow Bluff as Huntsville's version of Little River Canyon. A couple classics out there include Lucifer's revenge (5-9); Orange Crush (11-A Trad route). Two things to note: there is no camping and no topping out. That's just the weird funkiness of Yellow Bluff, but the rules are in place to protect this special area, so please respect them.
