Prepare for a long pedal if you're heading out Around the Block from Jackson. This deceptively named route is an intense 100-mile loop that includes ascending (and descending) 2,000 feet over Teton Pass. Some prefer to conquer this intimidating section first thing by heading straight for the pass from town, but the loop can be completed in either direction. If you're heading over Teton Pass first, the counter-clockwise route, head west on Highway 22, ascending Teton Pass. Be prepared for some incredible speeds on the way down. The clockwise route, however, is even more aggressive, as riders have reported speeds approaching 70 miles per hour on the clockwise route that includes the downhill side of Teton Pass into Jackson. Either way, going “Around the Block” will bring you through Swan Valley, near the Palisades Reservoir, by Alpine, and through the Snake River Canyon. Be cautious, as many of the roads don't have a shoulder. If you're looking for a mellower ride, consider Fall Creek Road which offers a scenic 36-mile out and back from the Jackson Town Square, heading to Red Top Meadows, with limited traffic.
