Flat Water Paddling in Jackson Hole, WY
About Jackson Hole Flat Water Paddling
String Lake is a wonderful place for beginners to head out and enjoy some flatwater. This small lake between the larger Jenny Lake and Leigh Lakes within Grand Teton National Park offers pleasant conditions for beginners and surprisingly warm water (well, warm for the Tetons). Canoe, kayak, or try your hand at stand-up-paddleboarding here. Boats are available to rent at Dornan's in Moose, just outside the main park entrance. Or, bring your own, but make sure it has a current Aquatic Invasive Species decal from Wyoming Game and Fish. If a river's what you're after, launch your boat on the Snake River from Deadman's Bar to Dornan's. This popular, 10-mile route offers plenty of obstacles, so it's not for beginners. Numerous local companies offer commercial trips if you'd prefer to let the pros show you around this gorgeous scenic route with views of big peaks, wildflowers, and maybe even some wildlife.
