As if you needed more than the views at the 9,095-foot top of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s Bridger Gondola. But JHMR gives you more—the best happy hour and snack specials around. The Deck is open Sunday through Friday until mid-September.
Ride the Bridger Gondola up for free or, hike the four-some miles and 3,000 vertical feet up to it from the base area. Just make sure you’re there when The Deck opens at 4:30. (The hike/run can take anywhere from an hour to over two, depending on how leisurely you make it.)
Happy Hour is from 5-6 pm with $2 off draft beer and a $5 specialty cocktail that will change every day.
However you get there, expect The Deck to serve up not only the best margarita in town, but also views of the resort’s famed Corbet’s Couloir (visible just to the south) and columbine, paintbrush, and lupine covering the Headwall, a hike-to, black-diamond run in the winter. Before or after your drinks and meal, take a walk on the resort’s new(ish) Cirque hiking trail. Starting right at The Deck, the trail climbs up through these wildflowers and into stands of white bark pine.
It took locals and visitors a little while to realize how awesome this place was, but for the last several years, if you’re not at The Deck within 15 minutes of its 4:30 opening, you’ll be waiting for a table, hovering around the stone patio’s perimeter looking for signs any seated party is about to leave, which doesn’t happen often. After all, The Deck comes by its name honestly: all seating is outside. So you’re sitting outside in the sun on the side of a mountain with the valley stretching out below, the Gros Ventres rolling out to the east, and servers delivering Kobe beef sliders, portabello mushroom fries, and custom cocktails like the Huckleberry HowPow, made with 44 North Huckleberry vodka and garnished with real huckleberries. (You should make sure to order both of these items.)
Note that all the seating is outdoors, so dress appropriately.
Reservations aren’t taken, but you can call 307/739-2675 for information.
