Disc golf is a great way to spend an afternoon, with friends or by yourself, enjoying the sunshine and getting a bit of exercise. Knoxville is fortunate enough to have four disc golf courses, the largest of which is Victor Ashe. Grab your golf discs and make the short drive to northwest Knoxville for this premiere recreation destination.
What Makes It Great
Victor Ashe Park (named after former Knoxville mayor) was finished in 2003 and is home to the most extensive disc golf course in the area. The park boasts 18 holes that range from 251 to 1006 feet, and have both beginner and advanced pins at every hole. With 120 total acres of land in the park, the course wanders quite a bit and will give any player plenty of fun for several hours to play a full round. There are several challenging holes here, including Hole 1 that requires your disc to clear the pond!
Being one of the nicest disc golf courses in the South, Victor Ashe has quite a few qualities to boast about. The overall quality of the buildings and facilities are on the top-end of what you would expect for a public park, and the grounds are equally as nice. All year round this area provides recreation for families on the large playground, disc golfers on the course, and dogs in the dog park.
Who is Going to Love It
Anyone! Victor Ashe Park is popular on pretty much any nice day, and the disc golf course rarely gets overcrowded. The park also offers a dog park, soccer fields, sand volleyball courts, playgrounds, picnic shelter, fishing pond, horseshoe pits, water fountains, and restrooms. Within the park, there is a 1.5 mile unpaved running trail as well as a 0.8 mile paved greenway which connects to the longer Northwest Greenway. So even if you do not play disc golf and are just looking for a great spot to get outside, this park may end up being one of your top spots in Knoxville.
