Across from Mast General Store on Gay Street, you'll find one of Knoxville's favorite new watering holes: Suttree's High Gravity Tavern. Named after Cormac McCarthy's dark, gritty novel set in mid-twentieth century Knoxville, Suttree's has the rustic feel of a bygone urban age without any of the grime.
What Makes It Great
Clean lines, sharp design, and attentive staff make this high gravity bar a favorite destination for craft beer lovers and after-work unwinders looking to relax and share a beer with friends. If you're not particularly beer-savvy, not to worry. All you need to know is that "high gravity beer" is a special kind of draft with a greater alcohol content, so your typical limit might be a little lower here. The constantly rotating menu of craft beers might seem a little overwhelming at first, but you can order plenty of small flights from the friendly attentive staff to figure out which brew is right for you.
If you like to mix in a little Street Fighter with your stout, you're in luck. Owners Matt Pacetti and Anne Ford are soon opening a gaming area next door, billed as a family-friendly destination by day and a "barcade" diversion for drinkers by night. Visitors to Suttrees can expect the addition to be open sometime this October.
