Sequoyah Park

Sequoyah Hills Park is in the Sequoyah Hills neighborhood near downtown Knoxville and the University of Tennessee. The 87-acre park runs along the Tennessee River and features picnic tables, open spaces, access to Sequoyah Greenway (unpaved), a playground, teeball fields, and water access for boats. Perfect for a quick after-work burn, Sequoyah Park offers great trails for running, jogging or walking, and it's mere minutes from downtown Knoxville.

What Makes It Great

Being just miles from downtown Knoxville and the University of Tennessee campus, Sequoyah Park is the perfect spot to get a run in or to simply relax in the sun. The riverside location gives beautiful views all along the park, with access for boaters looking for a put in downstream of town.

There are several running and biking paths that run through major areas of Knoxville, but the Sequoyah Greenway that runs alongside the park is especially scenic and popular. Technically starting at the western end of the park, the Sequoyah Greenway runs along Cherokee Blvd and the park's edge for 1.5 miles before heading onwards towards the intersection past Kingston Pike. At this point, Greenway users can either go left on towards Bearden or right towards the Third Creek Greenway and Third Creek Park. For students running or biking from campus, the Third Creek Greenway can be reached over on the Ag Campus and followed for several miles to Sequoyah Park. A map can be found here.

Who is Going to Love It

Anyone! Whether you just want a nice place to walk the family dog or are looking for a scenic distance run around Knoxville, this park is perfect for you. The wide open fields are always being used for games of frisbee or simple to have a picnic, while Greenway is always being used for some outdoor exercise.

Directions, Parking, & Regulations

There are three parking areas for the Sequoyah Park. If you are coming from Kingston Pike down Cherokee Blvd, the second two parking areas have river access for paddlers. If you are looking to start on the Greenway from the start head to the third parking area. Like most other Knoxville parks, the Sequoyah Park is open dawn to dusk.
