Life is too short not to splurge on tasty breakfast foods every once in a while. The Village Bakery and Café takes its name from Atwater Village, the burrow of LA which it sits flatly in the middle of. Atwater is a hipster haven nestled in between Griffith Park and Glendale filled with coffee shops and car dealerships that makes an ideal stop for the person coming down off the east side of Griffith.
What Makes it GreatThis spot is great because it has the allure of a coffee shop, with all you can drink, coffee in classic diner mugs for as well as really good breakfast food if you want to grab a full meal. People will use this spot as their office away from home as often as they will come for a full meal so do not feel bad about coming here with a laptop and plopping down for a few hours. While we are on the subject of the crowd, it is somewhere between hipster chic and urban tourist. If you’re reading this profile, you’re almost sure to fit somewhere between those two (intentionally broad) demographics, so this place should work for you.
The Village Bakery is a great place to find some good old-fashioned breakfast (at an LA price) served all day, and is the perfect place for the inner-city adventurer to find all that she needs for a quick adventure. Sitting outside you can easily see the hills of Griffith Park rising above the streets of LA. Before you check out the interesting runs and climbs you can do in the Park, there are two top-notch gear stores a block away from The Village.
Velo Studio is a bike store that sells in mid-high level bikes, mostly road bikes, and will do repairs on most any bikes. The mechanics at this place are really quite good and will take any project seriously. Next to Velo is the Runner’s Circle, a comprehensive running store that sells great running shoes for all levels of runners. You can get both a standard running shoe and a more advanced cutting edge shoe with an extra thick support or some other new running technological advancement. If you want to know more, ask them not me, as they are the experts.
Who is Going to Love ItGo here if you like coffee, people watching, amazing pastries, breakfast served all day, people watching, and spending lots of time at a coffee shop. This place has it all because you can drink coffee, eat good food and hang for a few hours without feeling out of place. Beware if you go on a weekend morning though because the LA brunch crowd can be intense.
There is also an Indian cafeteria/grocery store directly across the street that serves up amazing and reasonably priced Indian food seven days a week. If bougie coffee is not for you, this spot across the street may be right up your alley.
Directions, Parking & FeesThe Village is right on Los Feliz Boulevard in Atwater Village, a block off of Interstate 5 so it is super easy to get to. Parking can sometimes be difficult on Los Feliz Boulevard, but you can usually find a spot on the adjoining side streets if you look.
