Of the 120 camping sites in the Sand Flats Recreation Area, Juniper offers 17 of the most scenic sites. With views of the La Sal Mountains and Red Rock formations below, this is a lovely place to camp.
Sand Flats Recreation Area consists of 9000 acres, but is mostly known for the infamous Slickrock Bike Trail and the Porcupine Rim Trail. This area also offers super camping close to fun trails and town. The views are over the top spectacular. There are eight other camping areas, but Juniper is by far the most spectacular. There are no reservations for any of the camping in the Sand Flats Recreation Area. They are first come first serve and are typically full on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in the spring and fall.
What Makes It Great
Location, location, location… and views. The campsites in the Sand Flats Recreation area are in the heart of fun areas to play as well as being close to town. Juniper, the furthest campsite out, is off the road a distance managing dust and traffic. Almost all the sites will host 10 people and 2 cars. All of the sites have picnic tables, vault toilets fire rings (bring your own wood, do not collect wood.) There is no water available at any of the sites in the Sand Flats Recreation Area. There are quiet hours from 10 pm to 6 am and generators must be off from 8 pm to 8 am. Check out time is 11 am.
Juniper Campground is the furthest site out, making it a little easier to get away and avoid the other people who might be coming through. It's a great spot, close to town, and with amazing views, making it great for a weekend getaway!
Directions, Parking, & Regulations
Go east on 100 north from The main drag of town. Go .5 miles and take a right onto 400 East. Go another .5 miles and take a left at Dave’s Corner Market, onto Millcreek Drive. Go another .5 miles to stop sign. Go straight up the hill following signs. The Entrance booth is 2.5 miles up the road. Juniper campground is between mile marker 6 and 7 before the Porcupine Rim Trail.
The entrance cost is $5 a vehicle, $2 for a shuttle driver or $20 for an annual pass. Camping costs $10 a vehicle (5 passengers) $ for each additional camper.
Dogs are allowed, but must be kept on leash. Please clean up after your dog.
