Situated along the shore of Percy Priest Lake, just 30 minutes east of town, Long Hunter is made up of four units: Couchville, Baker's Grove, Bryant Grove, and Sellars Farm. Long Hunter is a unique environment with outcroppings of exposed limestone. It's a great recreational area for hiking, trail running, mountain biking, backpacking, paddling, fishing, and camping.
The Volunteer trail is my favorite. It's six miles long, and there is a nice campsite right on the lake. Percy Priest lake also has 11-15 primitive campsites on islands, so you can paddle out to the islands and camp. If you've got your boat and are planning on camping on one of the islands, Hole in the Wall Island is certainly the best of the bunch.
For mountain bikers, the Jones Mill mountain bike trail is located in the Bryant Grove Recreation Area. It features two loops: one is 2 miles long, one is 4 miles long. These trails are suitable for all levels of riders, and they offer a great view of the lake from Bald Knob. Hikers and trail runners are also welcome on the bike trail.
