If you are looking for some fairly easy coastal paddling Bluff Point State Park is a great place to visit. There is free parking and a boat launch that makes it very easy to put self propelled boats into the water. You will launch out into the Poquonock River and paddle between Bluff Point and the Groton New London Airport. Most days you will see small planes taking off and landing. The airport is also home to a Connecticut Air National Guard unit so on occasion there are helicopters and larger military planes. Bushy Point Beach protects the river making for calm conditions. It is possible to paddle past Bushy Point if you are looking to head into Long Island sound or over to Mumford Cove. Afterwards you can take a walk around Bluff Point or have a picnic at one of the tables on the shore.
