Review

Intro

Paddleboarding has exploded in recent years. This hybrid water sport combines surfing with the paddling of kayaking or canoeing, giving you a great full body workout (and a 360-degree tan). Paddleboarding in the Gulf of Mexico or Choctowatchee Bay is much smoother than the ocean, but still provides a vast difference from the flatwater paddling on lakes and rivers.

La Dolce Vita offers paddleboard rentals for you to test your skills on both the beaches of Destin and the beaches of South Walton. Since the business began in 2004, they have lived by their name to share the “sweet life” of beach services to the Panhandle. Many of the staff members are paddleboarders themselves, and will gladly offer paddling tips before you head out into the water.

What Makes It Great

La Dolce Vita rents 12 foot YOLO boards- a worldwide popular brand that started in Santa Rosa Beach and has strong local ties. Rental locations for La Dolce Vita in Destin include: Destin Harbor, Sandestin Resort, Four Mile Village, Costa del Sol, Amalfi Coast, and Calhoun-Crab Island. In South Walton Beach, rental locations include: Sanctuary by the Sea, Sanremo, Sanctuary at Redfish, and BellaVita. A full list of rental locations is available on their website.

A few of the rental locations are more ideal for paddle boarding than others. Destin Harbor, nestled in a cove accessible from the East Pass, offers some of the calmest waters due to its inland location. Four Mile Village is one of the less-crowded, residential sections of the beach, so you won’t have to worry about dodging tourists in the water. On the Bay side, Sandestin Resort in Miramar Beach is sheltered by the peninsula that creates Hogtown Bayou.

Who is Going to Love It

For lake paddling, Fort Walton Beach’s Sanctuary by the Sea sits on Big Redfish Lake. A small pass leads to the Gulf for those who want to paddle the open water. Located right near the Western Lake in Grayton Beach State Park, Sanctuary at Redfish is one of the most scenic paddling locations, where you can rent your paddleboard and explore the state park’s lake.
