Intro

The best way to immerse yourself in the Gulf of Mexico’s diverse eco-system is on Destin Snorkel’s snorkeling trip. This is also touted as the most popular tour and is one of the most active. During the three hour trip, you’ll have a chance to snorkel in the bay waters, along the jetties, and dolphin-watch. In the bay, the waters are much calmer and are gold mines for finding shells, crabs and seahorses. Along the rocky jetties, schools of fish dart around you as you snorkel. If you prefer to stay above water, single and double kayaks are available. In between snorkeling in the bay and by the jetties, you have time to relax as the boat cruises through the water in search of dolphins.

What Makes It Great

One step up from snorkeling, SNUBA bridges the gap between snorkeling and scuba diving. Instead of carrying your scuba tank, it sits in a floating raft on the surface of the water and you are connected by a 20-foot air line. You can dive up to 20 feet deep and remain underwater for up to 30 minutes, giving you the opportunity to see marine life that live in deeper waters, like flounder, sea anemone, toadfish, and more. Prior to your dive, you’ll get a crash course on SNUBA, then you get to explore the waters during the three hour tour. The SNUBA tour is $90 for adults and $65 for children (ages 8 to 12).

Who is Going to Love It

For a laid-back experience, tour on either the Fireworks Cruise or Sunset Dolphin Cruise. Relax on an open-air boat and listen to a narrated tour of Destin’s portion of the Gulf of Mexico and Choctawhatchee Bay. Dolphins are native to these waters, so it’s likely to spot one - in fact, the cruises have a 98 percent success rate. The Sunset Dolphin Cruise is two hours, and after cruising the Destin Harbor, you’re rewarded with a stunning sunset. The Dolphins and Sunset Cruise is $26 for adults and $13 for children (ages 5 to 12).

If you’re traveling to Destin on a holiday weekend, take the Fireworks Cruise to get an ocean-view of the city’s fireworks display. These are extremely popular and must be booked in advanced. The Fireworks Cruise is $30 for adults and $15 for children (ages 5 to 12).
