If you think the Gulf of Mexico is your only option for getting wet and wild at the beach, think again. Big Kahuna’s in Destin, Florida, offers two parks with thrilling water slides, a lazy river, mini golf, and more, guaranteeing fun for the entire family. Zip down the new Kowabunga Racer slide by day and brave the Cyclone by night thanks to the parks’ split hours, and grab a snack in between at one of the three dining options Big Kahuna’s offers guests. You’ll be hard-pressed to find somewhere else in the Continental U.S. to ride a Honolulu Half Pipe before retiring to your private cabana, daiquiri in hand.
What Makes It Great
Big Kahuna’s is geared at adventure lovers of all ages: more thrilling attractions have height minimums, while designated areas for our smaller friends have height maximums, giving them a park they can call their own. Bombs Away Bay and Humunga River offer a leisurely break from the exhilaration of the rides without leaving the fun behind, and private cabanas provide a comfortable home base in between rides, with shade, lockers, and lounge chairs.
Food option range from the usual---pretzels, burgers, nachos---to the impressive, like chicken Caesar wraps and gelato. Once it’s time for the Water Park to close, which, depending on the season, is between 5 and 6 PM, the Adventure Park opens, offering up a new world of possibilities. The Sky Coaster and Cyclone rides promise tests of courage, and Tropical Mini Golf amongst lucky Tiki Heads can be enjoyed by all. And, if by nightfall, you’re still looking to catch a wave, the Honolulu Half Pipe transitions from body surfing to stand up surfing during the park’s evening hours, so you can try your hang ten skills on this continuous artificial wave.
Who is Going to Love It
This water and adventure park offers something for everyone, from leisurely floating and cabana lounge sipping to the twists and turns of adrenaline-charged slides. Little ones will love the Humumga River and Bombs Away Bay, as well as their own portion of the park, and life jackets provided by the park help even smaller thrill-seekers conquer big rides. With food, drinks, lockers, and essentials all offered for purchase, a few hours of play can easily turn into a day-long adventure.
